Renaissance in the 21st Century
Night lessons in Villa Decius

The Villa Decius Association initiated the educational programme "Renaissance in the 21st Century" in order to develop a modern model of cultural education for children, pupils, teachers and educators. The aim of the project is to complete school education with topics of cultural heritage and to draw the pupils' attention to new areas of interest. The lectures take place in the historic Villa Decius that was build in the epoch of Renaissance. Discovering the historic building stock the pupils get the opportunity to deal more intensively with new cultural issues.

The didactic activities in the Villa Decius will cover selected cultural topics, with a special emphasis on Renaissance. The programme includes history lessons on the architecture of the Villa Decius and the former owners of the villa as representatives of Polish noble families. A part of the lectures will also be a multimedia presentation with a detailed comment. In addition to the theoretical knowledge the instructors of the courtly ballet Cracovia Danza will teach the participants the basic steps of Renaissance dance.

The participants have the opportunity to get acquainted to the etiquette at the court of King Zygmunt the Old during a dinner on the elegant premises of the Villa Decius. The pupils also participate in a workshop on fine arts: Pictures projected onto a screen inspire the pupils to arrange Renaissance-style rooms, to decorate initial letters in creative texts or to create decorations for courtly clothes. After an overnight stay at the villa the programme ends with a breakfast, where the pupils can exchange their impressions and revise the attained knowledge.

The project "Renaissance in the 21st Century" attracted great interest among the pedagogical environment. Participants of the programme are pupils of primary schools, teachers, instructors, helpers and parents of children participating in the meeting as well as artists, representatives of the media and volunteers. Furthermore students of subjects such as cultural studies, cultural animation and art history are engaged in the preparation and realisation of the project.
